Beautiful in every aspect. Everything about the house was wonderful it took me a long time to explore the house and the games room with its full size snooker table is superb! Would totally recommend.

We were very lucky to be invited as a guest of our friend Jackie who chose this amazing house for her birthday celebrations. The house is beautiful and even with a group of 20+, didn’t feel over crowded at all. There is enough cutlery, crockery, glasses, even sharp knives, to sink a battleship and the two dishwashers are a bonus. The grounds are superb and the outdoor seat plentiful. Everything was spotless and the bed linen and towels looked almost new, they were so sparkly white. We were located in bedroom number 8 on the floor plan and my only complaint was that I couldn’t open the window as I like fresh air at night!
“This is such an impressive place . Usually when you head to a getaway with a large group you have to get there early to bag a good room – No need to worry at Glingerbank – all rooms are fabulous. It manages to provide spaces to suit everyone’s taste – gardens to wander round & explore , impressive rooms where you can all congregate without feeling squashed in & smaller cosy rooms if you fancy some quiet time. All facilities & equipment are top quality & it’s a real treat to have enough cutlery ,crockery & glassware so you aren’t forever washing up – but with two dishwashers washing up isn’t really a chore. Loved every minute of my time there & can’t wait to have another occasion to book it!”

Glingerbank is an Edwardian country house obscuring an earlier rectory that is at the end of its own secluded drive off the A7, in stunning gardens and a short walk from the banks of the river Esk, If you want to get away from it all with your family (but still be in easy reach of the shops in Longtown or Carlisle) for a celebration then this is it. The house was big enough that there were rooms (such as the beautiful oak room or the stunning formal dining room looking over the lawns towards the pergola and fields beyond) where we could all gather and also where you could find some quiet space if that is what you needed. This house has a full sized snooker table, a table football and table tennis table in the very popular games room, ideal if you have teenage members of a family to keep them entertained (or older members of the family trying to play which can be also entertaining as we found out). The hot-tub overlooking the rockery that leads down towards a stream provided relaxation and luxury. We enjoyed sitting out by the pond when the weather was kind or under the veranda when it was not. The house was full of period features which helped to give you a sense of its past and also help to fuel the little dreamer inside you to imagine you are the country squire for a day or two. Upstairs there is a warren of bedrooms, most of which are ensuite. The bathrooms were to a very high standard. The only downside is the lack of wardrobes in many of the rooms. All in all a superb house that provided the perfect venue for a very special occasion.

WOW! Glingerbank is stunning. Set in its own beautiful grounds it is the perfect place to have a family gathering, wedding or just a relaxing time away.Richard the owner greeters us and showed us around, which we were very thankful for. If you love history and Downton Abbey, this is place for you. We had a family celebration at the house for a weekend and wished we had booked the house for longer. The facilities within the house are second to non and of a high quality. The house is immaculate and very well maintained as are all the grounds. What is so wonderful about Glingerbank is even though there were 16 of us, you could always find a quiet corner and relax on your own as this beautiful house is so big. The bedrooms and bathrooms are huge. We set the dining room up to have a formal dinner on Saturday evening and there was plenty of room for all of us to be seated at one table. As a chef I have to say I was very impressed with the kitchen facilitates. We had taken everything from home to cater for the whole family(Kenwood mixer, juicer, handblender, etc) and we need not of bothered as everything was there. The hot tub is wonderful, rain or shine!
The Billiard room / games room was a favorite with everyone again huge with a full size table, football table and ping pong table.
Glingerbank is perfect.

Wow! What can I say…I would give this 10 stars if I could!
We booked this house as well as Richards other house (Kirkandrews) for our Wedding celebrations and the pictures for both just don’t do any justice. They are both absolutely beautiful!
We live down south and decided to get married in Cumbria so we had a lot of guests travelling up to be with us on our special day. We booked Glingerbank for the week for ourselves and friends and then we booked Kirkandrews for 5 days for family members. We filled all the bedrooms in both houses and all of the feedback from everyone who stayed at them were very positive. Some people walked between both houses for different celebrations and they are very near to each other, 15 minute walk is estimated. I would however not recommend the walk with children as the walk is along a very busy main road so be safe!
Glingerbank
All of the bedrooms are absolutely stunning, many having the original fire place features and all having their own bathrooms. We stayed with a mix of adults and children and although all rooms were filled the house never felt crowded, in fact there was so much space we frequently misplaced items! The children absolutely loved the space and the gardener onsite found a toy car for the boys to play with which went down very well. Richard, James (Richards brother) and his staff were so supportive and kind right from the very beginning. The gardens are immaculate and there is so much outdoor space – we had a huge family rounders game the day after the wedding and it was brilliant! My favourite place was the rock garden down the side as well as the garden walk to an old swimming pool which sits on a beautiful lake! The hot tub was a treat and all guests enjoyed this. We were very lucky with the weather as there was not a cloud in the sky for the entire week so we spent most of our time in the garden (unusual for Cumbria!). Although even if the weather had been bad there would be plenty to do in the house – the games room was a particular hit! The kitchens were fully equipped with everything we needed…I don’t think there was anything missing at all!
Kirkandrews
Again such a beautiful setting. The walk towards the church and across the swing bridge is always my favourite part! The views over the river are stunning! The staff at the house again were extremely welcoming and friendly. Although I did not stay at this house, we had a pre-wedding drinks reception at this venue and all rooms were lovely and homely. I believe both houses to be quite different and each to have their individual qualities but this house really does have such a homely charm that I fell in love with the first time I visited.
All in all I cannot recommend these houses enough! Every one of us had such an amazing week and staying at these houses I believe made it! Thank you so much Richard for keeping in contact with me and letting us visit the house whenever we visited Cumbria, thank you to James for his lovely hospitality and a huge thank you to your fabulous staff who were so welcoming!
We would love to come back and visit again…perhaps on our anniversary!!

I rented Glingerbank for the spring bank holiday weekend as part of my husbands 50th birthday celebrations. There were 24 of us in total and the place looked ideal. It was even better in the flesh. I just can’t say enough good things about the place. The fact that the weather was beautiful also contributed to one of the best weekends ever. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all a fantastic size. The rooms downstairs are amazing although we made more use of the outside space. The hot tub was an added bonus. The grounds are stunning. Fantastic place and Richard, the owner, was so helpful and lovely to deal with. Rent Glingerbank House. You will not be disappointed. We would love to make it an annual booking.

The House is so well equipped spacious modern and the hot tub was a bonus for the girls. What a wonderful place to spend time with friends and family. The property has been beautifully renovated and caters so well for maximum capacity. Lots of lovely cosy lounge spaces with open fires and larger spaces to get together as a group. The kitchens are lovely and so well catered for with everything you could possible want…the owners have thought of all the details which make going away with a large group so easy.
Every bedroom and bathroom/en-suite was tastefully decorated and we all commented on the comfy beds and beautifully laundered linen – there’s not a bad room amongst them…we were all so pleased!
The outside space is perfect, we had 2 dogs with us and they thoroughly enjoyed exploring!
The hot tub was the icing on the cake, particularly with a layer of snow!

We “hired” Glingerbank for a special occasion party this weekend in March. There were 24 of us. We had loads of space, we each had our own bathroom, we had SO much room! The. boys played pool & table tennis – us ladies relaxed in the hot tub bed and read the paper (in front of log burning fires)… we loved it -we’d all go again – we’ve already started looking at dates! PS. The decor is amaze balls!

Absolutely fantastic house. We rented it for a weekend with friends and it was wonderful. Huge, beautifully furnished and really well laid out so that everyone had a great room with plenty of bathrooms. Communal rooms were comfortably big enough for all of us (15 adults and 10 children) and the grounds were ideal for exploring. The hot tub was an added extra to top off a great stay. We booked the house for a long weekend for a family get together. It was such a special weekend and from the moment we arrived at the house, we were not dissapointed. Excellent condition throughout, the grandeur and wonderful spacious rooms are perfectly laid out for entertaining both adults and children of all ages. The well equipped kitchen (2 dishwashers! In fact 2 kitchens!) beautiful views especially from the bedrooms. No fighting for the best bedroom as they were all stunning and mostly with en suite bathrooms. Comfortable beds. So refreshing to find a house of this scale in such good condition, close to shops and many interesting places to visit but such a peaceful and stunning setting. We enjoyed every aspect including the gardens. Nobody wanted to leave, and already planning another weekend. Thank you to the lovely hosts.

Stunning rural location on England/Scotland border near Gretna. Beautifully decorated and furnished old family home with all mod cons. Very friendly and helpful owners. We loved our stay and thoroughly recommend it.
